Come and see our “Interior of Special Historic Interest” as recommended by CAMRA’s publication Real Heritage Pubs of the South West
A warm and friendly atmosphere can be found in this attractive traditional Free-House located in Kilmington right on the B3092 between Mere and Frome. Situated on the world renowned Stourhead Estate, this National Trust-owned building has been under my new private business ownership since December 2014. Situated at the base of White Sheet Hill and adjacent to an old coaching route (the extra horses needed to negotiate the steep hill were once stabled here) the 16th Century former farmworker’s cottage has been a pub for some 250 years serving the Parish villages of Kilmington, Norton Ferris, Stourton, Gasper, Zeals and Bourton.
The Red Lion team is passionate about beer and food, using only the best local breweries, high-quality food producers and suppliers some of whom actually farm or live in the village. The bar counter houses a number of beer engines supplying a personal choice of traditional ales and cider. There is room for “guest ales” from further afield – maybe even Dorset! Lunch and Supper offerings will vary seasonally based on availability of ingredients both locally and regionally – certainly local flavours and origins are championed.
